The OR Support Assistant I supports the Operating Room staff by preparing case carts, maintaining supplies and equipment, and maintaining a safe and functional environment for all age groups. #tower

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: N/A

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment:
AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent

Experience REQUIRED: N/A

Experience PREFERRED:
6 months - 1 year working in an Operating Room environment strongly preferred
Knowledge of surgical instrumentation and supplies preferred.
Organizational skills and ability to multitask.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Education/training REQUIRED:
Completion of state recognized CNA program; or
Completion of first semester junior year in an accredited BSN program dependent upon school curriculum or
VCU/MCV BSN students - completion of sophomore year, Nursing 201, 202, 261 or
Accredited Associate Degree and Diploma programs - completion of first year or a minimum of two semesters of basic nursing courses.
Specialty areas e.g. pediatrics, women`s health, psychiatry may require completion of a clinicalrotation in that area; or
Completion of EMT program; or Completion of medical assistant program; or
One (1) year of medical assistant work experience within the last three (3) years; or
One (1) year of care partner or equivalent work experience within the last three (3) years; or
One (1) year of military corpsman experience within the last three (3) year

Independent action(s) required:
Functions under direction of a licensed independent practitioner, manager and/or RN. in providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving; all in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policy/procedure.
Requires prior approval or guidance from supervisor: time/schedule changes; legal issues; directed care which deviates from standard; and identify educational resources to meet developmental needs.
Job Duties may include the handling, transportation, access to and/or contact with medications and related supplies.

Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): N/A

Additional position requirements:
OR Support Assistants work all three shifts, weekends and holidays.
Individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with your specific Nurse Manager/Practice Manager.
Schedules, including requirements of shift rotations and hours of work may be adjusted as necessary to meet unit requirements and/or as needed.
